Boston Braves (www.Bostonbraves.net) Where to start… for 7 years now a simple concept of engaging former players of Football-Soccer so that they come out of obscurity has turned into a phenomenon.
It started in 2001 where a bunch of amateurs addicted to soccer from the state of MA formed a team named it BOSTON BRAVES (my copy writer at the time had come up with the name Boston Ball Breakers) which didn’t fly.
The team traveled right after 911 to Greece to play with some of the best teams that country has to offer. The concept and it’s principals have resulted in trips and games in places-countries that only dreams can produce.
Russia, Spain, Holland, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, England (twice) Cyprus, Greece, Monte Carlo, Brussels, Halifax and with teams as:
Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Ajax, Santos, Bayern, Hamburg, National team of Israel to name a few of the over 30 teams we did play with so far.
Many new friends, many many memories to see and talk about. Anyone who loves the sport and is able to follow it knows what it means to be able to play the game and watch some of the stars play in their stadium or have a photo taken with them.
Just returned from our last trip to UK where Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea hosted our 20 man team. We were able to watch one of the games of Liverpool against Reading 2-1 where Steven Gerrard and company had a relatively easy win.
Next stop was London staying at Chelea’s own hotel next to their Stadium.
The exposure to the life of these stars (first team) and how well are treated is a phenomenon by it’s self. Their training facilities where we did have our game with them is a technological wonder and the best in UK where the players are taken care as the best Arabian horses, you can’t find an ounce of fat in any of these guys.
Our team of Boston Braves is formed by many nationalities, some of them are English so they had the best of times taking photos with their young team stars and playing against the “Old Boys” as they are called. See a list of the Chelsea team we played with:
Dave Beasant – Goal Keeper
Scott Minto – Left Back
Keith Dublin – Sweeper
David Lee – Central Defender
Graham Wilkins – Right Back
Ray Wilkins (Midfield)
Gary Chivers (Midfield)
Gary Stanley (Midfield)
Steve Finnieston (Defender /Forward)
Tommy Langley (Forward)
Clive Walker (Forward)
Mark Westwood (Midfield)
Gareth Hall (Midfield)
Next dream: ITALY.
